Good Samaritan described as hardworking, cheery

He died as he had lived - helping anyone who needed him.

Lloyd Musick, 49, was driving along Route 309 in Lynn Township to pick up his son Brandon from Lehigh Career and Technical Institute on Nov. 19 when he came upon a crash involving two cars and a truck.

Musick, of Summit Hill, stopped to help, and while he was standing with two other people near the overturned truck, he was struck and killed by a minivan.

He was pronounced dead shortly thereafter at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. The other two individuals were also injured.

“There are no words,” Brandon said. “You just gotta smile and get through it.

“He would do anything for anybody. That’s just how he was. He was a true character and my best friend.

“I went to him for everything. He was my right hand man.”

Musick worked the last three years as a motor route driver for the Times News, Lehighton, the sister daily paper to the Northwestern Press. He served 300 customers.

He had also been a Summit Hill firefighter since 1991, his son said.

“Lloyd was a good family man,” said Fire Chief Shawn Hoben. “He reached out to kids other than his own.”

Accolades and prayers were posted on the Times News page.

Kevin Dyckman described Musick as “a great hardworking man and a role model to all of us.”

Vicki Bush knew him as a “wonderful cheery man.” She said she had “the privilege of knowing him from delivering our papers at work.”

Debbie Staffer cautioned about the road where Route 309 meets Mountain Road.

“That’s a terrible stretch of road,” she said.

Musick’s daughter, Kaitlyn, defined her father as a “firefighter, a husband, a father, a brother. And, a friend to anyone who needed one.” She added he was a “proud pappy” who was “caring with a big sense of humor.”

The Musick family has set up a fund for funeral expenses. Donations can be made on GoFundMe - “Funeral Expenses for Lloyd Musick.”
