The district-level comprehensive plan from July 1, 2020, to June 30, 2023, has been approved for Northampton Area School District.

NASD Board of Education voted unanimously 9-0 at the Nov. 11 meeting to approve the plan, at the recommendation of the administration.

The five-year plan was created by the NASD administration and staff, as well as by community members.

The comprehensive plan is available on the NASD website, nasdschools.org, as well as at district school buildings and Northampton Area Public Library, 1615 Laubach Ave.

At a previous school board meeting, Lydia Hanner, NASD director of curriculum and instruction, said, “Our comprehensive plan is put together by our district community.”

Approximately 84 persons contributed to the plan. In addition to administration officials, teachers and students, community members, parents and businessmen and women contributed to the plan.

The five-year plan includes “an action plan - where we’ve been, where we’re going and concerns we have,” Hanner said.

The comprehensive plan assists NASD to “plan, develop and manage a continuous program and plan of action in order to safely and appropriately educate the students of the Northampton Area School District as well as maintain compliance with state and federal mandates,” according to a statement on the district website.

In other business at the Nov. 11 meeting, school directors voted 9-0 to approve, at the recommendation of the administration:

• Voluntary transfer of Breann Williams from grade 4 elementary teacher at George Wolf Elementary to special education teacher at Lehigh Elementary School, effective on or before Dec. 13

• Memorandum of understanding between NASD and Northampton County Children and Youth Agency, effective immediately

• Additions and deletions to the substitute listing for the 2019-20 school year

• Revised master district volunteer list for the 2019-20 school year

• Attendance of Nicolette Teles at the 2019 Pennsylvania Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development Conference, Hershey, Nov. 25-26, at an approximate cost of $502.24, included in the 2019-20 board-approved curriculum budget

• Administration to prepare and solicit annual bids for the following supplies and services for the 2020-21 school year: maintenance/custodial supplies, instructional supplies, gasoline/diesel and fuel oil/natural gas

• Vendor(s) for fuel oil for the 2020-21 school year as recommended by Northampton-Monroe-Pike County Joint Purchasing Board and approved by Colonial Intermediate Unit 20 Board of Directors at its December meeting

• Bills for payment and 2019-20 budget transfers
