Trexler Nature Preserve program teaches children about birding, wildlife

The Trexler Nature Preserve and Wildlands Conservancy Pre-K Pathfinders program educates local children about birding and local bird life at the Trexler Education Center.

The program attracts parents and children from across the county, ranging from Bethlehem to Slatington.

The event, geared toward younger children, offers families an opportunity to learn about various bird calls and helps children identify birds present in the county.

Kids can hear calls from robins and blue jays, in addition to receiving their own identification books for local birds.

The program also introduces them to birding, or the watching and identification of birds.

Attendants go on a brief walk, each with their own pair of binoculars to help spot birds across the preserve.

The Trexler Nature Preserve offers 1,108 acres of scenic, outdoor experiences in Lowhill and North Whitehall townships.

The trail networks and observation points offer unique opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, walking and picturesque views complete with local wildlife.
