The Schnecksville Diner appears to have closed once again.

The first time, on Nov. 27, 2018, was temporary due to an order by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services, regarding alleged gross sanitation and facility violations.

An anonymous telephone call to the Parkland Press on Nov. 13 reported the restaurant, at 4527 Route 309, was again closed.

This reporter drove to the scene and found an empty parking lot, drawn blinds and darkened windows, all indicating the restaurant was not open for service.

Handwritten notices dated Nov. 10 stated the restaurant had closed at 2 p.m. on the day the notes were written.

The notes were taped to the locked front doors of the diner.

No further information was posted about whether the closure was temporary or permanent.

The restaurant’s interior lights were off, although visible through the blinds a lighted neon sign for ice cream could be seen.

Potted plants sat on the windowsills and fliers were still hung in the restaurant’s entranceway.

Behind the diner, pallets, boxes and empty buckets stacked near the locked rear doors.

Apparently, the shuttering caught some by surprise as several individuals parked and attempted to enter the diner, seemingly unaware of the closure.

This reporter then drove to the New Tripoli Diner, also located along Route 309, New Tripoli, to ask about the Schnecksville Diner’s closure.

John Pittas, who owns both restaurants, has not returned requests for comment or further information.

The listed phone number for the Schnecksville Diner has been disconnected, and the last activity on the restaurant’s Facebook page was Nov. 2 with no indication the business was coming to an end.
