Emergency personnel honored for bravery at Heather Glen

Members of local police departments, fire companies, emergency medical services and other first responders were honored for their actions and bravery during the Sept. 22 Heather Glen Senior Living fire during a Nov. 9 award ceremony at the Fogelsville Fire Company.

Eighty-two senior citizens and five staff members were evacuated by these brave men and women after a three-alarm fire broke out just before 3 a.m. to the rear of the senior living facility at 415 Blue Barn Road, Upper Macungie Township.

During the ceremony, Frank Pepper, of Heather Glen, expressed his admiration for the actions of the rescue workers.

Upper Macungie Township Supervisors’ Chairman James Brunell read a proclamation from the township expressing its gratitude for the heroic services of first responders during the award ceremony.

Congresswoman Susan Wild, D-7th, also thanked the first responders and expressed her admiration for the volunteers.

Fogelsville Fire Chief Jacque Creamer Jr. spoke on behalf of his fire company and other responders during the ceremony.

Upper Macungie Police Sgt. Dathan Schlegel, and Officers Drew Devery and Tim Peters were awarded medals of valor for their actions during the Heather Glen fire.

Trexlertown Fire Company Lt. Justin Kennybrew, and Lt. Frank Kimble, and President Gary Gorr also received plaques honoring Kennybrew and Kimble’s actions during the fire.

Cetronia, Macungie, Allentown, Emmaus, Upper Saucon, Kutztown, Topton, St. Luke’s Hospital, Hamburg and Penn State Health Fleetwood emergency medical services were also recognized at the award ceremony for their actions during the Heather Glen fire.

Lehigh County Emergency Management Station 52, Lehigh County 9-1-1 Center, Eastern PA EMS Council, Lehigh County Community Emergency Response Team, Lehigh Valley County Animal Response Team and Good Will Fire Company No. 1 of Trexlertown Ladies Auxiliary were also recognized at the award ceremony.

Heather Glen staff attending the award ceremony also thanked the men and women who responded to the fire.
