LV Museum:

New York Times best-selling author Peter Stark Speaks on “Why Pennsylvania Isn’t the End of the Road: Joseph Brant, Christian Post, Tecumseh and the ‘Indian Barrier State’ That Would Stop the Western Movement in Early America,” 1 p.m. Nov. 16, Lehigh Valley Heritage Museum, 432 W. Walnut St., Allentown.

“Few Americans today realize how close Pennsylvania came to being the nation’s westernmost state,” said Joseph Garrera, Executive Director of the Museum.

In the late 1700s and early 1800s, confederated Native-American tribes, encouraged by British authorities, attempted to create an “Indian Barrier State” to prevent white settlement any farther west than the Appalachian Mountains.

Stark will tell the story of those efforts by Christian Post, Mohawk leader Joseph Brant, and Shawnee leader Tecumseh.

Copies of Stark’s books will be available for sale.
