Allentown Band to present 17th ‘Salute Troops’ concert

The Allentown Band presents the 17th Annual “Salute the Troops” Concert, 3 p.m. Nov. 17, Auditorium, Northeast Middle School, Bethlehem.

Proceeds from the concert, sponsored by Morning Star Rotary Club, Bethlehem, benefit Victory House of the Lehigh Valley.

The band will be joined on several selections by members of the Northeast Middle School Band and Select Chorus and the Men’s Chorale of the Lehigh Valley.

Ronald Demkee is Conductor of the Allentown Band.

Brian Rupnik and Denise Parker are Directors of Northeast Middle School Band and Chorus.

The first half of the program is: “Prologue”-”Star Spangled Banner,” arranged by William Pruyn; “Rifle Regiment,” John Philip Sousa; “Liberty Fanfare,” John Williams; “Solid Men to the Front,” John Philip Sousa; “Duty, Honor, Country,” Harold Walters, based on a speech to Cadets at West Point by General Douglas MacArthur, with Emile Guida, Narrator; “Official West Point March,” Phillip Egner; “The Homefront: Musical Memories of World War II,” arranged by James Christiansen, and “Eagle Squadron,” Kenneth Alford, dedicated to American pilots who enlisted in the British Air Force before the United States declared war.

After intermission, the program continues with: “For Our Heroes,” Alan Lee Sylva, with the Northeast Middle School Band; “Band of Brothers,” Michael Kamen-Brubaker; “Sabre and Spurs,” John Philip Sousa; “Who Are the Brave,” Joseph Martin; *American Sing-Along,” arranged by Kenneth Force, with the Lehigh Valley Men’s Chorale; *Salute to the Armed Forces,” arranged by Bob Lowden, and “Stars and Stripes Forever,” by John Philip Sousa, with the Northeast Middle School Select Chorus and Lehigh Valley Men’s Chorale.
