The Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners met Nov. 7 where a conditional use hearing was held over the proposed car wash at 6192 and 6770 Hamilton Blvd., an existing structure that includes A.B.E. Doors & Windows. The applicant explained the proposal, which will include reconstruction of A.B.E. Doors & Windows.

The proposed car wash will preserve existing Sycamore trees. A buffer will be created to curtail noise and light pollution for residential areas. Traffic issues will be addressed such as a turning lane and turn around area.

The proposed car wash includes advanced technology with laser technology. There will be two to three employees onsite and sufficient parking. Water is recycled with a car washing using less water than at home.

The updated buffer will include deciduous trees, flowering trees and evergreens.

Residents who live behind this area shared various concerns including noise and light pollution. The hours of operation were proposed to be 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Neighbors are not happy with the distractions during the early morning hours as well as night hours disturbing sleep. There was a suggestion to make the hours 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Traffic concerns were also raised. Making a left out of this location would be very difficult. Another area car wash representative talked about Hamilton Boulevard traffic.

Water was also noted as a concern. Residents were told this should not be an issue with the recycling of water.

Another neighbor spoke about his present use of some of the land for storage. This will be dealt with as the project moves forward.

The last concern was about potential litter and leaves from the trees in the buffer zone.

The project will move forward with attention placed on these concerns.

Attention was called to the guiderails on Dragonfly Road. This is coming from trucks making wrong turns. This will be further investigated.

There was an executive session over potential litigation.

There is a problem with the traffic light at Route 100 and Spring Creek Road. Sometimes it only allows one truck through before it changes. This will be investigated.

Another problem noted involved turns coming out of Aster Road onto Route 100. This will also be investigated.
