As they do every October, firefighters from the Lower Macungie Fire Department’s Wescosville, Brandywine and Alburtis fire stations hosted a community open house to acquaint residents with the personnel and equipment always on call to answer 911 calls for help.
The open house featured games, activities and demonstrations for everyone in the family, though visiting youngsters showed the most enthusiasm for exploring the emergency vehicles on display.
Community partners and vendors filled the Brandywine fire station’s engine bays with activities and handouts and food samples.
Salisbury Township’s canine Miklos, and his handler Officer Brian Zulic, demonstrated the dog’s capabilities and command obedience and firefighters demonstrated the use of hydraulic tools used to free victims trapped in a simulated vehicle accident.
Picnic fare was available for visitors. The open house is held in October in conjunction with the department’s Fire Prevention week activities.
