LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

STUDENT OF THE WEEK

Q. Who are the members of your family: parents, siblings and pets?

A. I live with my parents, Nick and Tara and our cat, Suzy.

Q. What do you most enjoy about being a senior at Emmaus High School?

A. As negative as it may sound, I enjoy knowing the fact that high school is nearly over. I’ve enjoyed my time at Emmaus, but I am ready to go to college.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. History and English are my favorite subjects. I attribute this mainly to the great teachers I’ve had at Emmaus, such as Mr. Pirro, Mr. Carolla, Mrs. Hunter and Mr. Zolomij. Additionally, I’ve really enjoyed my French classes, thanks to Madame Pissarra and Madame Kalb.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. For the last three years, I have made documentaries with the National History Day Club. Three years in a row I have participated in regional competition, and the last two years I have qualified for state competition. History Day has encouraged my creativity as a student while also developing my academic abilities, something I’m very appreciative of. Every boring second of research and every grueling edit is worth it after watching the final product.

Q. What are your favorite extracurricular activities?

A. In my free time I enjoy listening to and playing music. Most weekends you can find me either working or playing music with some of my best friends.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. To be honest, I don’t know what my goals are following high school. I plan on going to college, and hopefully find a profession that makes me happy and financially comfortable.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. In my freshman and sophomore years, I played on the mens volleyball team at Emmaus. Balancing academic and athletic life was pretty difficult. I quit before my junior season when I simultaneously realized my severe lack of talent in the sport and the unnecessary significance that is placed on youth athletics. Ask anyone that participates in a sport at Emmaus and you’ll hear them say that their education takes a back seat to their team during their season. My coaches were genuinely great, and I still have friends on the team that I respect for their tenacity and dedication, but I couldn’t handle the significance it carried.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. My mind is blank when I think of what I would like to be remembered for. Hopefully people view me as a kind and funny person.

Q. Whom do you admire? Why?

A. I admire Nate Garcia and Sean McGinley for their great art. I admire Ryan Stewart and Darren Bower for always making me laugh. I admire Alex Ott for being my study buddy. I admire Brandon Washburn for being a fantastic musician. I admire Emma Lin-Moyer for her strong headedness. I admire the friends that I forgot to mention.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. Success in high school is vital. Pour your heart into your academics. Do nothing else. Do not neglect studies. Do not engage in delinquent behavior. Reject friendship. Do not take advice from children.
