Marching Zephyr Band has a goal to collect 100 bags of gently used or new shoes (25 pairs a bag) by Nov. 15, and it needs your help! To donate any unwanted shoes, drop them off in the bins located by the band room and in the main office at Whitehall High School.

Any type and size of used shoes are acceptable as long as they have no holes or rips.

Contact an MZB member if you have any questions.

Elementary parent-teacher conferences will be held Nov. 25, 26 and 27. Your child’s teacher will schedule an appointment time with you for your conference. Please bring your photo ID and enter at the front door.

Parking is available in the stadium parking lot. All students will be dismissed noon during conference days.

Breakfast will be offered, but there will be no lunch served in the cafeteria Nov. 25, 26 and 27.

Students will report back to school for classes Dec. 3.

WCSD’s trip policy states that educational trips are limited to seven school days per year. Any days missed for travel beyond the seven days of absence will be illegal days if the student’s age is 16 or younger.

The family educational trip request form (available in the school office) must be submitted to the office prior to departure.

The district prefers all trips be scheduled during the holiday breaks.

Gockley, Steckel and Zephyr Elementary students are learning ways to protect their environment through Crayola’s Color Cycle program. The program - involving reusing old/dried-up/used markers for clean energy - is being coordinated by art teachers.

Instead of throwing used markers into the trash and adding to growing landfills, they are collecting them to send back to Crayola. The schools will accept all plastic-bodied marker types of any brand, including permanent markers, dry-erase markers and highlighters.

There is no cost for the district, and the program benefits a greener Earth for us all.

If you’d like to participate in this program and have any old, dried-up markers at home, put them in a resealable bag and send them in with your child. There is a collection box in the art rooms. They will be shipped to Crayola for recycling.
