A council member should: listen to the constituents; display empathy; show they are “hearing” residents by responding to concerns; stay current with local and regional issues that might affect Macungie; be willing to change their mind based on ongoing “listening and learning” practices; earn trust by being authentic; speak calmly and courteously at meetings to one another and residents – everyone deserves respect; be well informed; do not use hearsay as testimony; be a fact checker; give room to one another to disagree, all council members intend the best for the greater good; be a team player; be willing to admit a mistake; accept public service as a privilege.

I think voters are looking for integrity, dedication and transparency in their council members. I would like to bring to the position a fresh outlook with greater representation of all of the residents. I would weigh carefully the projects and needs of the community relative to the spending of taxpayer dollars. I feel like I represent many others in saying we need more value and not just increased taxes. With some new faces on Macungie Council we can move toward eliminating unnecessary projects and start listening to the voices of more of the people in the borough.

Macungie needs a representative who will continue to represent the interests of its citizens, businesses and its employees. A deep respect for planning, zoning, legislation and budgeting. Listening, providing integrity, offering experience to be resolute in resolving concerns. I offer a firm grasp of the complexities of the law. Bring into the borough over $2 million in grants. As a resident of the borough for 23 years, a member of council for 8 ½ years and president for seven years. A husband, father of five, grandfather of 13, a former Marine and owner of a business for 40 years, I would appreciate the opportunity to continue to serve.
Gregory A. Hutchinson
A good councilman is someone who first listens, really listens. They must not prejudge the question or person. It is important to take in the information, digest it and discuss the subject with other members on the council. A good councilman must be mindful of the borough funds and spend first on the needs then wants for the betterment of the borough.
