Bach Choir to audition for ‘Noah’s Flood’ opera

Auditions will be held at 4-7 p.m. Nov. 4 and 4-8 p.m. Nov. 5, The Bach Choir office, 440 Heckewelder Place, Bethlehem, for a performance of Benjamin Britten’s opera, “Noah’s Flood” (“Noye’s Fludde”), Feb. 28, 29 and March 1, Packer Memorial Church, Lehigh University, Bethlehem.

The Bach Choir of Bethlehem and The Bach Festival Orchestra, under the director of artistic director and conductor Greg Funfgeld, is partnering with The Bel Canto Youth Chorus, Pennsylvania Youth Theatre (PYT) and members of the Young People’s Philharmonic, the Junior String Philharmonic, and the Lehigh University Philharmonic on the theatrical production.

PYT’s Jill Dunn Jones directs the production.

The chorus of singers from The Bel Canto Youth Chorus, Pennsylvania Youth Theatre, and area school children, will play the roles of the animals, and will be prepared by Bel Canto Artistic Director Joy Hirokawa.

Funfgeld will cast the following roles after auditions: Noah’s sons and their wives, who should have well-trained voices; Sem and Ham, middle, high school or college students; Mrs. Sem and Mrs. Ham, middle, high school, or college students, and Mrs. Noah’s Gossips, high school or college students.

Prepare a classical song or aria and an excerpt from a Broadway show or popular song.

The cast will include about 80 students (Grades 2 - 12) playing a chorus of animals. There are minimal rehearsals for these roles.

There are opportunities for dancers.
