The month-long 2019 InVision Photo Festival begins 6- 9 p.m. Nov. 1 as part of Southside Bethlehem’s “First Friday,” ArtsQuest’s Banana Factory Arts Center, with three exhibitions and opportunities to create artwork, view demonstrations and attend artists’ talks.

“The Lehigh Valley has an incredibly rich photographic community and artistic heritage, which InVision has celebrated for 10 years now,” says ArtsQuest Director of Visual Arts Hillary Harper.

“ArtsQuest is excited to offer InVision as a month of amazing photography and photo-based art programs and exhibitions,” she added.

To celebrate a decade of showcasing the photographic arts, InVision has expanded to take place November 1-24 at the Banana Factory Arts Center, SteelStacks and other venues.

Headlining this year’s festival is fashion photographer Lindsay Adler, who conducts a free presentation, 1 p.m. Nov. 16, Banana Factory Arts Center, on how concept and style help differentiate images and can move a photographer’s work to the next level. Adler’s work has appeared in Elle Magazine, Harper’s Bazaar and dozens of other publications. Other topics include finding your own style and how to find inspiration for memorable images. Registration is required.

Adler will teach a Creative Studio Lighting workshop, 4 p.m. Nov. 16 at a private photography studio in Allentown. The ticketed event will focus on lighting setups.

Celebrity portrait and “Saturday Night Live” television show photographer Mary Ellen Matthews will discuss her inspirations for the creative portraits she captures for “SNL,” equipment she uses and tips she utilizes to represent each subject’s creative personality, 4 p.m. Nov. 17, Banana Factory. Ticket required.

Matthews will explain her “SNL” comedic portrait photography and how improv and comedy have influenced her photography, 7 p.m. Nov. 17, Frank Banko Alehouse Cinemas, ArtsQuest Center, SteelStacks. Ticket required.

Award-winning graphic designer and commercial photographer James Collins presents a macro-photography workshop, 10 a.m. Nov. 2, Banana Factory. Ticket required.

Portfolio reviews by professional photographers Stephen Perloff, Lydia Panas, Heather Sincavage, Anna Chupa and Michiko Okaya are scheduled at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 3, Banana Factory.

Other hands-on workshops at the Banana Factory will feature an Olympus digital imaging classroom, photo-walks, screen-printing, painting in Adobe Photoshop, photo transfer and family time capsule class, and more. There is a fee for most workshops.

Collins’ ““Patio Life” exhibit and artwork from the 9th Annual InVision Juried Exhibition, the Morning Call Scholastic Digital Photography Contest, and InVision College Competition, will be on display in the Banana Factory.

Matthews’s celebrity photography will be on view in the Alvin H. Butz Gallery, ArtsQuest Center.

Events and exhibitions are scheduled at partner venues in the Lehigh Valley.
