STUDENT OF THE WEEK
Q. Who are the members of your family: parents, siblings and pets?
A. The members of my family are my dad, Brian, my mom, Kelly, my brother, Johnny and my dog, Shadow. My brother also has a hamster named Marge but she sleeps all day.
Q. What do you most enjoy about being a senior at Emmaus High School?
A. As I go into my senior year, I look forward to making more memories, as well as looking back on old ones. I am also excited to begin looking into the next chapter of my life as I apply to colleges.
Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?
A. My favorite subject is either math or science. I have known for a while I want to become a chemical engineer and a proper combination of both subjects is required in order for me to be successful. If I had to be a little more specific, I would probably say calculus and chemistry. I have had great teachers that have helped me along every step of the way.
Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A. I am a member of National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society. I am a recipient of the AP Scholar with Honor Award. I was invited to the PMEA District 11 Orchestra Festival where I ranked second, PMEA Northeastern Region Orchestra Festival where I ranked first and also the PMEA All-State Orchestra Festival. I played for the Emmaus Varsity Lacrosse team this past year when we won the PIAA District 11 Class 3A Championship. I have participated in the Regional History Day competition with my group members, Ishaan Lal and Nathaniel Wertz, where we placed second and advanced to the state competition. I have also received a certificate of achievement for my participation in the 2019 U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad local competition.
Q. What are your favorite extracurricular activities?
A. Some of my favorite extracurricular activities include lacrosse, orchestra, academic team, history day club, math league and volunteering at my local animal shelter. I am also planning on founding a Chemistry Olympiad Club this upcoming year (if anyone reading this is interested, let me know). It is nice having a good balance of activities to look forward to and I have been fortunate enough to be a part of a good sum of them.
Q. What is your next goal after high school?
A. My goal after high school is to attend a four-year university with a strong chemical engineering and co-op program. I would also like to pursue a masters degree and carry my experiences over into the workforce.
Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?
A. My biggest challenge to date is probably utilizing my free time to do homework/study. I usually just end up watching Netflix or playing PS4 when I could probably be doing something more efficient. I procrastinate a lot, which really isn’t a good thing.
Q. For what would you like to be remembered?
A. I would like to be remembered for my determination and commitment both inside and outside of the classroom. I also aspire to be a successful engineer who is able to leave a mark on society.
Q. Whom do you admire? Why?
A. My biggest role model was my great grandfather. He was an Italian immigrant who dedicated his life to his family. He was a member of the military and eventually opened up his own barbershop. He lived a long, happy life up until the age of 96 and proved to be the strongest person I have ever met. My goal in life is to be as determined and hardworking as he was.
Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?
A. Make sure you utilize all of the resources Emmaus provides its students with. Also, stay involved in the school and create friendships with others that have similar interests as you. Finally, make the most of your time in high school. It all goes by way too fast.
