LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

STUDENT OF THE WEEK

Q. What grade are you in?

A. I am currently a senior at Salisbury High School.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject has always been English. I enjoy reading and analyzing literature and I love any opportunity to write.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. I was inducted into the SHS National Honor Society as a sophomore and continue to be an active member. I also earned the opportunity to intern at The Morning Call this summer.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?

A. I am involved in many extracurricular activities both at my high school and within the community. I have been honored with the opportunity to write for the Salisbury Press as a liason for the high school for the past three years. I have been a member of the SHS debate team since my freshman year. This is my second year as president of the Literary Club and I am a peer mediator. I take both ballet and modern dance classes at the Muhlenberg Community Dance Center; this will be my 15th year dancing there. I also volunteer at my church as a second grade Sunday School teacher, an assistant minister, a choir member and a mission trip volunteer.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. My goal after high school is to attend a four year college or university and study English with a concentration in creative writing. This would allow me to pursue my dream of writing a novel.

Q. What would you say your biggest challenge has been so far?

A. One of the biggest challenges I have faced so far is my ability to balance work with fun. I find it important to not only strive for academic excellence, but also to remain active in my school and community. With a busy schedule, it can be difficult to find a good balance, but I have learned to manage my time wisely.

Q. What do you want to be remembered for?

A. If there is one thing that I would like to be remembered for, it would be my compassion. I work on a daily basis to be kind to those around me. During my free time, I like to volunteer at my church or assist my peers with their homework. I hope to continue this volunteerism and compassion throughout the rest of my life.

Q. Who is in your family?

A. In my immediate family are my parents, Susan and Jeffrey, my brother, Aidan, who is currently a sophomore at SHS and my dog, Cheddar. I am also very lucky to have my grandparents, Jack Snyder, Patricia Mathieu, and Richard Mathieu living in the area.

Q. Do you have someone you look up to?

A. Someone I look up to is my grandmother, Leona Snyder. She was kind, considerate and compassionate to those around her. My grandmother also had a strong faith and regularly attended church services. Although my grandmother passed away, I hope that I can show compassion to others the way she did.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. I would say to follow your dreams, even if they may seem difficult at first. From my experiences, I have learned that with persistence and effort, all dreams are possible. My other piece of advice for all current and future SHS students is to watch out for the out-swinging doors in the hallways. It really hurts when they hit you!
