SALISBURY TOWNSHIP BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

The speed limit along Lehigh Avenue has been reduced in Salisbury Township.

It was the first vote for newly-appointed township Commissioner Heather Lipkin, who represents the first ward, in which Lehigh Avenue is located.

Salisbury Township commissioners voted 4-0, with one commissioner absent Oct. 10, on a motion made by Commissioner Rodney Conn and seconded by Commissioner James Seagreaves, to amend the Salisbury Township Code or Ordinances, Chapter 15, Motor Vehicles and Traffic, Part 2, to establish a 25 mph maximum speed limit on Lehigh Avenue, between Tweed Avenue and Park Avenue.

According to the ordinance, reducing the speed limit to 25 mph from 35 mph was made after “careful review, investigation and traffic study,” pursuant to Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes Title 75 (Vehicle Code).

In accordance with the Title 75 statute, the township is permitted to establish a maximum 25 miles per hour speed limit in a residential district.

The posting of the speed limit is required. The ordinance went into effect Oct. 10.

Alleged speeding vehicles along Lehigh Avenue have been a source of complaints by township residents to the township board of commissioners and township police department.

“This amends the ordinance to impact the entire length of Lehigh Avenue,” Salisbury Township Manager Cathy Bonaskiewich said prior to the vote.
