EMMAUS PUBLIC LIBRARY

The Emmaus Public Library recently sponsored a hands-only CPR course.

Craig Deppe and Tara Apgar from the Emmaus Ambulance Corps and Jeffrey Baker a member of the Emmaus Board of Health instructed approximately 15 participants in the correct way to administer hands-only CPR.

Hands-only CPR involves doing CPR compressions without the mouth-to-mouth breaths. According to a hand-out publicizing the event, “It [Hands-Only CPR] has been shown to be as effective as conventional CPR for cardiac arrest at home.”

Participants were shown the proper chest compression method and permitted to practice the technique on realistic mannequins. Red, amber or green lights in the mannequins indicated the effectiveness of the practice CPR.

This class provided excellent instruction as well as hands-on experience in the use of this method of CPR.
