The Center for Humanistic Change will give a presentation on heroin and opioid prevention education for parents and guardians 6:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 17 at Salisbury High School, 500 E. Montgomery St., Allentown.

Participants will learn about heroin and opioids and how they are used, be able to recognize signs and symptoms of use, understand addiction as a brain disease, learn about the effects of use on health, relationships and life and be able to identify local resources, including how and where to find help.

The program is open to the public.

EMMAUS ROTARY CLUB

Emmaus Rotary will host the third Make A Difference service day Oct. 19.

Emmaus Rotarians plan to do light gardening work, bulb planting and cleaning windows at Hillside School, starting 8 a.m.

Tree planting at and near the Knauss Homestead with the Wildlands Conservancy will start 8:30 a.m.

Rotarians will prepare dinner for the men at the Allentown Rescue Mission and pack meals for Turning Point families both at in the kitchen at Zion’s Evangelical Lutheran Church 8:30 to 11 a.m.

Rotarians will sort clothes and other items 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Kindness Project in Emmaus.

Rotarians also will volunteer at the Emmaus Halloween Parade 7 p.m., serving as marshals and assisting with float line up/organizing at Keystone Avenue prior to the parade. Club members will meet 8:30 a.m. Oct. 20 in the Weis parking lot for a cleanup.

Organizers will need as many volunteers as possible to accomplish the club’s goal to make a difference.
