Sheckler News: Fire departments visit school

On Oct. 11, volunteer firefighters from the Catasauqua and North Catasauqua departments spent time with Sheckler Elementary School students.

Thank you to all the firefighters who took time from their busy schedules to come to Sheckler Elementary and help educate the students during fire prevention day. We appreciate all you do for the students and the community.

Hats off to all of you!

All Sheckler students are invited to participate in the school’s pumpkin-decorating contest. Students can submit a carved or decorated pumpkin - or a combination of both. All contest entries must be submitted between Oct. 21 and Oct. 23.

Judging will take place Oct. 24.

Students are able to enter their pumpkin in only one category they wish to be judged in. Entries should be placed on the table for that category when their pumpkin is being dropped off. Entries should be labeled with the student’s name and homeroom number on an index card.

The categories include funniest, most colorful, best animal theme, best superhero theme, prettiest, most unusual, best classroom theme, best cartoon/movie character theme, scariest and most creative.

First-place ribbons and certificates will be awarded in each category for kindergarten through second grade and third grade through fourth grade.

All entries must be removed at the end of the day Oct. 25 or they will be discarded in the trash.

Have fun and good luck to all who enter!

Students will be marching in their annual Halloween parade Oct. 25 as part of Sheckler’s October festivities.

The parade will begin 1:30 p.m. and will start in the bus parking lot. It will proceed down Sheckler’s driveway and travel north on 14th Street to Bridge Court, then circle Bridge Court, going left onto Bridge Street and continuing South on 14th Street. Students will then make their way back to the school.

In choosing your child’s costume, take into consideration students will not be permitted to dress in costumes showing injury, blood or pain. They are also not permitted to carry weapons of any sort.
