Former Hosfeld’s General Store damaged in car crash on Sept. 29

The former Hosfeld’s General store and Stony Run Post Office, 2471 Route 737, Stony Run, Albany Township, was damaged 1:20 a.m. on Sept. 29 when a car crashed into the front of the building, now used as a residence.

State Police Troop L, Hamburg, say Jamen M. Schrock, 41, of Kempton, was driving a 2012 KIA Forte south on Route 737, when he allegedly failed to negotiate a right curve in the roadway.

His car continued straight across the oncoming traffic lane before leaving the roadway and striking the building.

Schrock, who police say was wearing his seat belt, was uninjured.

The disabled car was removed by V&M Towing. The building sustained extensive damage, police say.

According to Berks County court records, Schrock was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and/or a controlled substance, a misdemeanor; and driving at an unsafe speed and careless driving, both summary offenses. All are first offenses.

His preliminary arraignment is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. Nov. 7 before Berks County Magisterial District Judge Kim L. Bagenstose, Hamburg.
