At the Oct. 3 Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting, David Jaindl appeared to request relief from traffic impact fees for the area around Hamilton Boulevard and Commerce Center Drive North. The request was in consideration of previous traffic improvements at the future Air Products development at the Route 222 and Mill Creek intersection made through Jaindl.

These improvements included an installed traffic light at Trexler Business Center South and other required improvements by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. The commissioners agreed to lower the traffic impact fee by almost $320,000.

The commissioners approved this action by a vote of 3-1 with Commissioner Douglas Brown rejecting it and Commissioner Richard Ward being absent.

In other business, resident Tom Rotkowski and Pastor Scotty Coyle from Bethany Church, presented an idea to the commissioners. They are suggesting a tribute to veterans in the township in the form of banners honoring local veterans. Rotkowski and Coyle have researched the idea and have found a group involved with this called MilitaryTributebanners.org. Family members or a sponsor could also assist purchasing banners.

Commissioner President Ronald W. Beitler said this idea has been in the process. Areas being considered to display these banners are Hamilton Boulevard and Brookside Road. The township is already researching this by looking into permits with PPL as their utility poles would be the ideal place to display the banners. Presently Lower Macungie has information about veterans on the Lower Macungie Historical Society website.

Beitler recognized Bethany Church for its ongoing tribute to veterans.

A resident complimented the board for its assistance in creating a cricket court. There is a group that is very involved in this sport.

There was an executive session held involving litigation.

A pre-construction agreement was made for Lots 9 & 10 at the Spring Creek Property location. The commissioners approved this with Brown recusing himself.

There was also a pre-construction agreement for Greentree Industrial Park located at 8018 Quarry Road. This will allow for site work to begin.

A multi-way stop sign was approved for Kressler and Hillview Roads/Hillview Drive.

Matthew Wiswesser submitted a letter of resignation from the audit advisory committee.

The 2019 sewer manhole maintenance rehabilitation project received several bids. This is a multi-municipality project which includes Coplay, Whitehall and Upper Macungie. The bid was awarded to PIM and will cost the township $44,850. An additional bid option of $27,600 will also be considered.
