On Saturday, Sept. 28, the Whitehall football team took on Bethlehem Catholic at BASD Stadium.
Whitehall (0-6) quickly fell behind after a couple big plays by Bethlehem Catholic’s myriad of skill players. Whitehall’s senior running back Ali Barkley carried the ball several times for the Zephyrs, but could not find running room all day.
Whitehall quarterback Quinn Wentling was able to connect with senior receivers Anthony Nanoah and Allen Negrette on a few big plays, specifically on a deep crossing route downfield that was run to success a few times. However, the big plays were overshadowed by interceptions and the score turned ugly quickly.
Bethlehem Catholic’s staunch defense was highlighted by a pick-six off of a half back screen in the second quarter. The score at halftime was 28-10.
The Zephyr’s were only able to muster one more touchdown in the second half and fell to the Golden Hawks 42-17.
Next week, Whitehall will play Parkland (4-2) at home at 7 p.m. Parkland was taken down by Bethlehem Catholic 44-7 on Sept. 14. But, the Trojans are coming off of a huge victory over previously undefeated Nazareth and are looking to save their season in the hopes of another possible EPC championship.
