Upper Macungie remembers those lost on 9/11

First responder organizations serving Upper Macungie Township had their annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony Sept. 11 at Good Will Fire Company No. 1, Trexlertown.

The solemn ceremony has become a tradition in Upper Macungie since the attack on the World Trade Center Twin Towers on Sept. 11, 2001.

Good Will Fire Company No. 1 Fire Chief William Gillespie was master of ceremonies for the event.

Pipers James Ruhf and Jim Baldree provided bagpipe renderings of sacred music and state Rep. Gary Day, R-187th, was the keynote speaker.

His poignant message highlighted the need to remember, whether it be such a significant event as the attacks on 9/11 or one’s family and friends remembering their love for each other.

He reminded everyone of the importance of remembering the local first responders who provide residents of Upper Macungie and neighboring townships, boroughs and cities with the knowledge they are being protected by local fire, police and emergency medical service organizations.
