The Whitehall boys soccer team is currently fourth in District XI standings at a record of 10-4-1.

The Zephyrs had won five-straight games since their very competitive 4-1 loss to a good Parkland squad and before a 2-0 loss to Northampton on Monday night. On Sept. 28, the boys team took on a struggling Nazareth squad and came home with a 4-2 victory.

Coach Chris Bastidas commented on his teams play.

“Kresstoph Whittick is playing like the MVP of the league,” Bastidas said. “He can stretch the field for us and can change a game any time he touches the ball.”

Through early this week, Whittick has 18 goals, 8 assists, and 44 points. “We have not been shutout [Prior to Monday] yet this year and it is nice going into games knowing that you have a great chance to score goals,” Bastidas said.

Bastidas spoke very highly of the rest of his team, including Justin Mattison, Whitehall’s goalkeeper, who is having the best season of his career.

The playoffs are soon approaching and the Zephyrs want to carry their momentum into the playoffs.

“We have to continue to work for everything,” Bastidas said. “We are now playing teams for the second time and we will both know a lot about each other so we have to out work them which will allow our offense to have more chances to score.”

Against the Kids, goals by Anthony Snyder and Kevin Lechner led NHS to a 2-0 win. Whitehall outshot the Kids 18-6.

The Whitehall girls squad is coming off two tough losses to Nazareth and Northampton after beating a very good Easton team in overtime a few days prior. It was a close match as they fell 3-2 to the Lady Eagles and 4-3 to the Kids on Monday.

Kate Bonshak is continuing her dominant play. As of stats from Sept. 23 she has 21 goals, 9 assists, and 51 points. Bonshak’s 51 points is by far ahead of the next player. Her sister, Emma Bonshak, is second on the team with 14 points.

The girls team is right in the mix for the playoffs as the season winds down.

“We are looking to finish strong and qualify for district and hopefully league playoffs,” Bleam said.

The final opponents for Whitehall will be a test and if they pass, they surely will head into the playoffs with momentum.

“We have a tough finishing stretch with 5 of 6 remaining opponents having better records than we have but we believe we improve and learn from each game and will be very competitive down the difficult final stretch.”

The Kids scored three second half goals to pull out the victory Monday.

Alex Benedict, Abbi Czarnecki, Raine Korpics and Madison Eisenhart all scored goals with Czarnecki and Becky Galicki getting assists for

Kate Bonshak scored twice for the Zephs with Ella Holmes also getting a goal. Sophia Pittas and Emma Bonshak each had an assist.
