WESTERN SALISBURY VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT

Some 350 friends and neighbors flocked to the Western Salisbury Volunteer Fire Company’s 11th annual Community Day festivities Sept. 14 at the fire company’s Swain fire station, 950 S. Ott St. and the adjacent Green Acres Park, for games, food, equipment demonstrations and an up-close look at fire apparatus and a Lehigh Valley Health Network MedEvac helicopter.

The fire company hosted the day’s events as part of its activities commemorating the fire company’s 60th anniversary observance.

Bounce houses and games in the park were a popular draw for youngsters and their parents, Balloons the clown entertained in the park pavilion, firefighters demonstrated the equipment they use to fight fires and conduct rescue activities at accident scenes, food was served in the fire station by Smokin’ Smitty’s barbecue catering service and youngsters got to pretend they were driving fire engines and flying a MedEvac helicopter.

The Community Day is held annually in September, followed by October fire prevention programs in township schools, a Halloween candy give-away and the holiday visit by Santa on the back of a fire engine in fire district neighborhoods in December.
