Early-morning crash closes 22; passenger ejected from vehicle

A stretch of Route 22 West was closed Sept. 19 after a two-vehicle crash in the area of Airport Road, Hanover Township, Lehigh County.

According to Pennsylvania State Police Troop M, Bethlehem, a 56-year-old male from Lansdowne was operating a 2010 GMC box truck, traveling in the left lane of the two-lane highway just before 3:30 a.m. A 40-year-old male from Laurys Station, operating a 2018 McLaren 720S, struck the box truck from behind.

A passenger in the McLaren, a 30-year-old female from Allentown, was ejected from the vehicle, police said. She was transported by Northampton Regional EMS to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.

A GoFundMe account has been created for the female, identified on the crowdfunding site as Kelsey Gibson. The creator of the account, Gibson’s sister, reported she was listed in critical condition. Information on injuries to the drivers was not detailed in the police report.

Traffic on Route 22 West was detoured onto Airport Road while the crash was investigated by the Troop M Collision Analysis Reconstruction Specialist Unit.

Han-Le-Co Fire Department assisted with traffic control at the scene.
