Zephs get big win vs. Freedom on the road

There was a certain satisfaction for the Whitehall Zephyrs in defeating the defending EPC and District XI champions when they shut out Freedom, 4-0, last Wednesday on the Patriots’ home turf.

“After a loss it’s always good to get a win, but against the defending district champions, that’s a big thing, so now we have to keep on going and keep scoring goals,” said Whitehall forward Kresstoph Whittick.

That loss was to Emmaus, also last week, by a score of 3-2.

“We were kind of upset because we just lost a massive game to Emmaus but we were still focused because we knew this was going to be a big game,” said Whitehall forward Jacob Gier. “We were leading Emmaus (2-0) the whole game and with 15 minutes left, they scored three goals on us, so we just had to come back and get a win so it was good.”

Whittick was first on the scoreboard for the Zephyrs.

“There was a ball played over the top, the defender was trying to get it back to the goalie, so I pressured him, and then I kind of stole the ball from the keeper, and then I finished it near post,” he said.

Whitehall scored two more goals within 90 seconds of each other when Elie Khalil scored unassisted at 6:35, and Giovanni Mazzola also scored unassisted at 5:03.

“We just keep playing good balls. Everyone is getting on the scoresheet, not just one person,” said Whittick.

Gier finished the game with a goal at 18:34 in the second half on an assist by Whittick.

“He played it over top and then I outran their center back, and then touched it in front of him and then I finished it,” Gier said.

On Saturday, the Zephyrs took a road trip to Crestwood where they played to a 1-1 tie.

Whittick scored on an assist by Khalil in the second half.

Payton Glynn scored for Crestwood, also in the second half.

Justin Mattison made three saves for the Zephyrs, and Cole Kranson made eight saves for Crestwood.

The team lost to Parkland 4-1 as the Trojans scored two second half goals to pull away.

The score was 2-1 Trojans at the half.

Kresstoph Whittick got the Zephs on the board but two straight from Parkland made it 2-1 as Sean Wood and Jordan Madise found the back of the net.

The Trojans would added goals by Ben Marko and Kyle Hesston.

Alex Wilsterman had three assists for the Trojans.
