SALISBURY TOWNSHIP BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

Dustin Grow is the new Salisbury Township fire services director.

Grow has been lead fire inspector for Salisbury Township where he has been administrator of the township fire inspection program, having worked for the township since April 3, 2014.

The township board of commissioners voted 3-0, with one commissioner absent and one commissioner seat vacant, to approve a resolution to appoint Grow.

Township Commissioner Rodney Conn made the motion, seconded by Commissioner James Seagreaves, to bring the resolution to a vote.

The new position is part time. Grow will be paid $29 per hour.

Salisbury Township Solicitor Atty. John W. Ashley administered the oath of office to Grow at the Sept. 12 meeting after the commissioners’ vote to approve the appointment.

Grow has worked in public administration for almost 20 years, including as a fire service volunteer and firefighter.

In an email to The Press, Grow said he has “several goals, including streamlining and improving fire service delivery with the township and achieving the greatest level of service and the most effective cost to the residents, working with Salisbury Township administration, Salisbury Township Police Department and Eastern Salisbury and Western Salisbury fire companies.”

The Salisbury Township Police Department provides annual fire safety-life safety inspections in the township.

The township-commissioned 140-page Emergency Services Comprehensive Review was posted March 15 on the township website, where it can be downloaded, read and printed.

Among the review’s recommendations is to create a fire captain position to oversee, manage and coordinate the township fire-rescue service division, fire inspection program, volunteer fire services and function as the township fire marshal.

The review also recommended moving fire inspectors from the jurisdiction of the police department to that of a fire captain.

The review’s recommendations are non-binding.

Township commissioners voted 5-0 to accept the review at its March 14 meeting.

“It is strictly to accept the report. It doesn’t obligate the township to take any action,” Salisbury Township Manager Cathy Bonaskiewich said prior to the vote for approval of the review.

The township commissioners are next scheduled to meet 7 p.m. Sept. 26 in the municipal building meeting room, 2900 S. Pike Ave.
