From the parking lot, the yelping of a dog as dogs and cats could be heard as they arrived at Forgotten Felines and Fidos for vaccination on Sept. 15.

The animal shelter is located along Mountain Road, Heidelberg Township.

Coconut, one of the canines, continued to cry all through the procedure and struggled even after he was wrapped in a towel.

Tara Kunkle administered the shots with Vet Tech Claire Schultes from Lehigh Carbon Community College, who was watching and learning, and occasionally helping.

Margaret Fenstermacher and Ruth Anne Chaplies, who prepared the needles, also work on surgery days. Tammy Karol helped hold the animals, some of which objected to the procedure.

Vaccinations were for Lyme disease, rabies and distemper.

Karol received a minor scratch that did not bleed but she was told to scrub it for five minutes or she could possibly end up in the hospital.

Moses, belonging to Sue Bortz and Dave Bauer, was found by their dog in some weeds outside Slatedale.

He received his name from the Biblical story of Moses found in the reeds along a river.

Moses weighed just 2 pounds and was brought to Forgotten Felines and Fidos for medical help. Now, at age 2, he weighs 14 pounds.
