STUDENT OF THE WEEK
Q. Who are the members of your family: parents, siblings and pets?
A. My mother Cindy and my father Quay. I also have two younger siblings, Naomi and Caleb and a cat named Minou.
Q. What do you most enjoy about being a senior at Emmaus High School?
A. As a senior, I am most looking forward to taking more difficult classes that are only offered to the upperclassmen.
Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?
A. My favorite subject in school is computer science. I really enjoy the challenge of getting a new problem and having to figure out the code to solve it. It can be difficult, but is always so satisfying to finish it in the end.
Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A. I have won awards for my photography through competitions I go to with our school newspaper. I have won regionals twice for newspaper photography and also received Keystone Awards for feature photography and a photo story. I have also been recognized for my academic achievements throughout high school.
Q. What are your favorite extracurricular activities?
A. My favorite extracurricular activities are taking pictures for “The Stinger,” French Club, ACSL Club and working with a missions team at a deaf school in Jamaica.
Q. What is your next goal after high school?
A. My goal after high school, other than going to college, is to find a service group to get involved with at whatever school I go to because I love helping others.
Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?
A. During my junior year I struggled with making the decision of whether or not I wanted to participate in Shave for the Brave. As a freshman, I knew I wanted to be involved, since the fight against pediatric cancer is something that affects a family that I am very close to, but I couldn’t decide what I wanted to do. Eventually I came to the conclusion that I wanted to raise money and shave my head, and although the process of growing out my hair proves to be an interesting one, I am so glad I was able to do it before I graduated.
Q. For what would you like to be remembered?
A. I would like to be remembered as someone who was always willing to help to try to put a smile on other’s faces.
Q. Whom do you admire? Why?
A. I admire my great-grandmother because she overcame all of the obstacles life handed her and kept being the amazing woman she is, even during the hardest periods of her life. I admire her perseverance and caring nature, and hope that I can replicate those qualities in my own life.
Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?
A. If I could offer one piece of advice to my peers, it would be to get involved in a club so you can find people with similar interests and make some new friends.
