A beginner Pennsylvania German language class will be taught in the one-room schoolhouse at the Pennsylvania German Cultural Heritage Center, 22 Luckenbill Road, Kutztown (adjacent to Kutztown University) 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesdays through Nov. 5.

Keith Brintzenhoff, retired teacher and local musician, will be conducting the course.

Included in the course is a course notebook, lots of culture, music, humor, vocabulary and phrases of the local dialect.

The Weisenberg Lowhill Genealogy Library, 4585 Werleys Corner Road, New Tripoli, will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 7.

Wi-Fi is available, so bring a laptop, as well as a bag lunch and beverage to research your family and the local area.

The 17th annual Schpotyaahr Fescht (Fall Festival) will be held at the Weisenberg Lowhill Historical Society headquarters noon to 6 p.m. Sept. 14 and 15, rain or shine.

The theme is “Why Didn’t Our Ancestors Identify Their Photos?” Bring photos, and someone maybe able to identify the people in the photos. Many children’s activities will be available. There also will be a bake sale, fishing pond, animals in the barn, farm implements and tools, watermelon eating contest, musical entertainment by the Rehrig Brothers (on Saturday) and Country Rhythm (on Sunday), exhibits featuring local history, the Miller-Keystone Bloodmobile, and much more.

New to the festival this year are 4 Food Trucks. Children’s crafts are rock painting, pumpkin painting, basket making, face painting, crafters include chair canning, rug hooking, blacksmith, ceramics, corn husk wreaths, antique engine, car and tractor displays, miniature horse and buggy rides (Sunday only), watermelon eating contest, tours of the hotel, visit our store and library, and much more.

Claussville Garden Club will meet 7 p.m. Sept. 9 at Ziegels Church, 9990 Ziegels Church Road, Breinigsville.

Fred Buse will present “A Day in the Fall: Setting the Stage for the Birds,” a photogenic presentation from twilight to dusk of the feeding cycle of Fall birds in a suburban setting. Community members are welcome to attend.
