Artis seeks return to Hershey

Shane Artis has been to the PIAA Cross Country Championships in each of the past two seasons. He has progressed each year. After coming in 60th place as a sophomore back in 2017, Artis then came in 59th last season with a time of 18:04 at Hershey Park.

He is one of a number of returning Falcons to this year’s cross country team. The boys’ team finished with a 2-22 record in the Colonial League last year. Artis, a Colonial League First- Team selection, placed fifth at the Colonial League Championships in 17:32.22. He then improved that time and finished at districts with a third-place finish in 16:54.72.

Michael Sosnowski was the Falcon boys’ second runner last year and a Colonial League Second-Team all-star. Junior Carver Moyer was a consistent top runner for the Falcons last fall. He placed 38th at leagues in a time of 19:44.36. He followed that up with a 71st-place finish at districts.

The other top Falcon boys finishers from last year include: sophomore Chase Fenstermaker (82nd at leagues, 103rd at districts), sophomore Kyle Artis (84th at leagues), sophomore Hunter Bleam (101st at leagues), sophomore Leo Bushey (107th at leagues) and junior Kieran Connelly (108th).

The Salisbury girls’ cross country team went 2-21-1 a season ago. Alicia Miller (83rd at leagues) and Angela Acosta-Jung (84th at leagues, 85th at districts) have graduated.

Last season junior Eliza Weiner led the Falcons at leagues and districts, finishing 69th in the Colonial League and 72nd at districts. Junior Logan Woods ran consistently in last year’s postseason races, finishing 80th at leagues and 84th at districts. Juniors Sativa Stecker and Hana Schimeneck also ran for Salisbury in the postseason last year.

Salisbury's boys cross country team returns league and district medalist Shane Artis, a senior who has been the team's top runner for the past three seasons. The Salisbury girls cross country team (below) might not have enough numbers to score as a team, the Falcons will look toward individual successes in the postseason.PRESS PHOTO BY NANCY SCHOLZ
