LOWHILL TOWNSHIP: Zoo offering ‘Swing into School Year’ event for kids Sept. 1
Lehigh Valley Zoo, 5150 Game Preserve Road, Schnecksville, is hosting Swing into the School Year event Sept. 1.
There will be an exciting line up of crafts and activities including a story time starting at 11 a.m. followed by a meet and greet with Princess Belle 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Stop by one of the educational keeper talks to learn new animal facts and say hello to the zoo’s new ambassador Radley, the sea turtle.
Join Radley Sept. 2 for the zoo’s first ever Bubbles, Not Balloons event.
Throughout the day, the zoo will be featuring an assortment of bubble themed games, crafts, and activities as well as helping guests understand the importance of keeping our oceans and waterways free from harmful plastics including balloons.
The zoo will have an contest until Sept. 2 to help them name its baby kangaroo.
Visit the kangaroo exhibit for the chance to vote and participate in kangaroo themed crafts and activities.
Then at 3 p.m. Sept. 2 they will reveal the winning name at their Out of the Pouch party at the kangaroo exhibit, featuring a live reveal, and refreshments.
Join the zoo staff from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sept. 2 for its Cookies and Canvas Duo paint party outdoors in the amphitheater right outside the main office. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held indoors.
A presentation with Bean, the resident Sloth will take place at 11 a.m.
Tickets include light refreshments, one adult 9-inch by 12-inch canvas or one child 6-inch by 8-inch canvas, all required acrylic paint and brushes, a photo of Bean to take home and admission to the zoo for the day.
Proceeds go toward the care of the zoo’s resident animals.
The Brew at the Zoo Country Beer Festival featuring live music, games and beer will take place 1-4 p.m. with VIP noon to 1 p.m. Sept. 7.
Sample more than 40 craft beers in a 4 oz. Brew at the Zoo beer mug included with admission fee.
Breakfast with the Beasts at the Zoo is scheduled for Sept. 8 under the Peacock Pavilion.
During breakfast quests will have the opportunity to mingle amongst some of the zoo’s ambassador animals while learning some fun facts.
Participants will learn about the animals, and zookeepers all while getting an up-close look at the active early morning zoo life during a guided tour.
There will also be a special guest appearance by Princess Belle and the Beast from 8-10 a.m. courtesy of Joanna Bertalan of Professional Singing Princess. Bring a camera to take photos.
As a bonus, the price of a breakfast ticket includes daytime admission to the zoo and a complimentary giraffe feeding voucher.
Menu includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, home fries, yogurt and fresh fruit.
This special event will be offered twice breakfast at 8-8:45 a.m. with guided tour at 8:45 a.m. or breakfast at 9-9:45 a.m. with guided tour at 9:45 a.m.

The last church picnic of the season at Morgenland Church, 3120 Weidasville Road, Orefield, will be 4-8 p.m. Sept. 7. This event will be held rain or shine. Music will be provided by Midnight Special.
There will also be a basket raffle with the proceeds going to the church.
Donations of filled baskets are welcomed.
Hamburgers, hot dogs, barbecues, sausage sandwiches, soup, french fries, soft drinks, ice cream, cakes and candy will be available for purchase. There will be a cake walk and activities for children.
