LOWER MACUNGIE TOWNSHIP BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

At the Aug. 15 Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting, approval of Resolution 2019-26 was obtained for the amended preliminary/final plan for the Cedarbrook Road Industrial Park land development. The amended plan calls for relocation of storage bins for New Enterprise Stone and Lime which will facilitate easier access. The change involves moving from Lot 1A to Lot 1B.

A permit was required due to possible pollution of the local water source. The National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System approved the plan and issued the permit.

In other business, a time extension was approved for the Jaindl Commercial Park North project. This project included the construction of a four-story office building for a major employer which has not been identified. The extension for the project is indefinite.

An increase in the trash and recycling fee was approved. This increase is due to the inclusion of electronic recycling. Items included are refrigerators, computers, televisions, hazardous waste and other similar items.

A resident complained about a dead street tree. The concern is if the tree would fall during a storm. The resident would need to remove the tree and replace it if living in a development. However, the trees mentioned may not be in a development. This will be further investigated.

A water line update was required at Indian Creek due to the Lower Macungie Library expansion. A resident is concerned about this as it affects his property. This is being considered and construction is anticipated by late September or early October.

The approval for a time extension was approved for Indian Creek Village. Originally this was to happen Sept. 9 but has been extended to Nov. 19.

The Wild Cherry bridge is progressing with the guide rails installed. The bridge next needs to be inspected by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

The Spring Ridge trail is very near completion.

Brookside Road opened as of Aug. 23.

An ordinance was approved for restriction of certain trucks on specific roads. Details can be found on the Lower Macungie Township website www.lowermac.com.

A discussion arose over requests for proposals. RFPs are issued for various services within the township such as solicitor and banking. An RFP is already in the works for an auditor. Further clarification will follow at a later meeting.

A resolution was approved for a right turn lane, southbound, at Brookside Road and Buckeye Road.
