Be sure to stop at the Emmaus Public Library, 11 E. Main St., for the library’s annual Community Heroes Day festivities 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 5. The event, which is held in the library’s parking lot, is an opportunity to celebrate and thank our community heroes. Youngsters can climb on a fire truck, view the inside of an ambulance and talk with first responders and police officers. The library’s parking lot closes 5 p.m. to accommodate the emergency vehicles. For information, email Sue Monroe at eplkids@cliu.org or call 610-965-9284. Just prior to the library event, the Emmaus Remembrance Garden will hold a brick installation ceremony honoring community heroes 5 p.m. Sept. 5 at the garden on the grounds of Knauss Homestead, 152 E. St. Ann Church will hold its annual fall festival 5 to 10 p.m. Sept. 5, 5 to 11 p.m. Sept. 6 and 4 to 11 p.m. Sept. 7. The festival is held on the church and school grounds, 414 S. Sixth St.

St. Ann School is celebrating its 70th anniversary with many special events planned during the year. To kick off the school year, there will be a special grandparents’ Mass 9 a.m. Sept. 6.

The Emmaus Main Street Partners will host a Farewell to Summer Festival 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 21 at Triangle Park. The festival features live music, kid’s activities, craft vendors, face painting, a dunk tank and food trucks. There will be a scarecrow trail and scarecrow decorating.

The festival is held in conjunction with the Emmaus Historical Alliance for the Emmaus Heritage Festival 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. which is being held at the Emmaus Historical Society museum, 218 Main St. The Alliance members invite the public to attend the festival and enjoy food, entertainment, crafts and activities. The Emmaus Historical Society will meet 7 p.m. Sept. 18 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 501 Chestnut St. The program, which was postponed from February, will be “The Golden Jubilee 1909 celebration.” All are welcome to attend.

The Emmaus Historical Society museum, 218 Main St., is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.

Upcoming bus trips sponsored by the historical society are Oct. 17 to Penn’s Peak to see “Glenn Miller Orchestra… A Legend Lives On” and Dec. 19 to Dutch Apple Theater in Lancaster for “Irving Berlin’s Holiday Inn.” Both shows include a lunch. The Emmaus Senior Citizens group resumes meetings after its summer hiatus 1 p.m. Sept. 6 at St. Matthews E.C. Church, Fifth and Ridge streets. The group will meet the first and second Friday of each month from now on rather than every week. Dick Roberts will entertain at the Sept. 6 meeting and Sept. 13 is game day. The Woman’s Club of Emmaus will host a demonstration of Qigong (a form of Tai Chi) 7 p.m. Sept. 23 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 501 Chestnut St. A business meeting 6:30 p.m. will precede the Qigong demonstration. Women interested in joining the club are invited to the club’s meetings and events.

Mark your calendar for the Woman’s Club of Emmaus’s annual fall card party 11:30 a.m. Oct. 31. The club’s famous barbecue sandwiches and desserts will be served. If interested in attending, call 610-395-6434.

Come out and celebrate Pennsylvania German heritage at the Emmaus Oktoberfest at the Knauss Homestead, 152 E. Main St. (enter at the Cintas building driveway) 1 to 6 p.m. Sept. 28. The event is hosted by a partnership between Knauss Homestead Preservation Society and the Emmaus Main Street Partners. It will feature beer, brats, games, music by the Jolly Bavarians and food from Licensed 2 Grill. Emmaus Borough Council meets 7 p.m. Sept. 16 in council chambers, 19 S. Fourth St. The offices are closed Sept. 2 for the Labor Day holiday. The borough will hold a community yard sale 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 7. For information, visit borough.emmaus.pa.us.

Free Zumba sessions are offered 9 to 10 a.m. Saturdays at the Arts Pavilion in Community Park. The Emmaus Community Park pool will be open noon to 8 p.m. Aug. 30, 31 and Sept. 1. It will be open noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 2 (Labor Day).

The Friends of the Emmaus Public Library will host an autumn social and silent auction 7 to 10 p.m. Sept. 27 at Brookside Country Club, 901 Willow Lane, Macungie. Come enjoy wine tasting with hors d’oeuvres and chocolate. Tickets may be purchased at the library. All proceeds will benefit Emmaus Public Library programs. The Friends of the 1803 House, 55 S. Keystone Avenue, invite the public to attend “Bites & Brews” at The 1803 House, 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 22. This is a fundraiser to help renovate the historic site’s colonial windows and shutters. The event is limited to 100 and is for adults only. It includes a taste of a variety of FUNK beers in a commemorative Pilsner glass, food from the Licensed 2 Grill food truck, tours of the house, yard games and entertainment by Larry Killingsworth. The Emmaus Halloween Parade Committee has begun its planning meetings. The committee welcomes volunteers to help coordinate this popular event, which this year will be held Oct. 19. If interested, the committee meets 7 p.m. every Thursday beginning Sept. 12 in the community room at borough hall, 28 S. Fourth St.
