A Lehigh Township man has been charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment after neighbors alerted police of a disturbance and a woman screaming for help.
According to the report from Lehigh Township Police Chief Scott Fogel, Blaine Kirchner, 56, was taken into custody Aug. 17 and transported to Northampton County Prison.
Lehigh Township police responded to a disturbance call approximately 11 p.m. in the 3400 block of White Pine Lane. Officers had been alerted by a neighbor in the area that a woman was heard screaming for help and banging on the front door.
Upon arrival, however, police found no one in the area but discovered evidence of a scuffle and someone being dragged to a nearby residence, the report stated.
Numerous affects from a purse and other items led police to 3494 White Pine Drive. Due to the nature of the disturbance, police entered the residence. Upon searching the home, police discovered a man, identified as Kirchner, concealing a woman under a blanket.
Police said the woman had injuries consistent with being struck several times as well as being strangled.
The woman was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Kirchner was unable to post bail.
