Campus tours Sept. 3, 5
Northampton Community College will offer 11 a.m. tours of the Bethlehem Campus Sept. 3 and dental hygiene, massage therapy and medical assistant majors at the Fowler Family Southside Center Sept. 5. Participants will learn about the majors offered, financial aid, clubs, organizations, career services and more. There will be question and answer times and an opportunity to meet faculty and current students.

Medical secretary course offered
Northampton Community College is offering a medical secretaries course from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, Sept. 3 through Nov. 13, at the Fowler Family Southside Center, 511 E. Third St., Bethlehem.

Parallel Lines art opens; reception Sept. 12
Northampton Community College Art Department faculty members Jan Crooker and William Hudders will present “Parallel Lines,” a painting exhibit, through Oct. 25 in the gallery at Communications Hall at the Bethlehem Campus. There will be a reception from 6 to 8 p.m., Sept. 12. Twenty art works by each artist will highlight their parallel similarities in exploring the genres of still life and landscape painting in contemporary modern directions.
The gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday - Thursday, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. It is closed on Sunday.
National Science Foundation grant received
Northampton Community College has been awarded a National Science Foundation grant in the amount of $299,336 to implement a three year “Building a Culturally Responsive Degree Program in Information Security” program. It will be responsive to students’ life experiences and teach skills needed by industry. The goal is to be designated nationally as a Center of Academic Excellence for two-year colleges.
The studies will focus on CAE’s two-year requirements and regional workforce needs; a recruitment plan that attracts underrepresented students into the cyber security field; a retention plan that supports completion, transfer, career placement and/or advancement; and a faculty/staff recruitment plan that meets future enrollment needs by incorporating strategies that will result in a diverse pool of qualified and culturally-competent candidates for computer science faculty positions.
