41st Wheels of Time set for Aug. 23-25, Macungie

The 41st annual Wheels of Time “Rod & Custom Jamboree,” is Aug. 23, 24 and 25, Macungie Memorial Park, Main Street (Route 100), Macungie.

Appearing at the “Jamboree” is Michael “Horny Mike” Henry, an airbrush artist seen on “Counting Cars,” a reality TV show which began airing on 2012 on the History channel. Henry is nicknamed for placing three-dimensional horns on motorcycle helmets and vehicles.

Henry is expected to display his custom truck and trailer, robotic three-wheeler and motorized picnic table.

TV show cars at the “Jamboree” include a replica of the car from “The Flintstones” animated TV series (1960-1966) and the DeLorean “time machine” car from the “Back To The Future” movie (1985).

The “Jamboree” includes rock ‘n’ roll bands the nights of Aug. 23 and 24, an expected 250 flea market vendors, food, children’s entertainment, and an estimated 1,500 street rods and custom cars 1989 or older on display.

The annual “Friday Night Cruise” features the first 200 show cars that are signed up Aug. 23.

At 6:30 p.m. Aug. 23, vehicles depart the Allen Organ parking lot, head south on Route 100, turn left on Buckeye Road, turn left on Route 29 (Chestnut Street), drive through Emmaus, turn left on Harrison Street, pass Emmaus High School, turn right on Cedar Crest Boulevard, turn left on Lower Macungie Road, turn left on Willow Lane and return back to Route 100 to Macungie Memorial Park.

The entertainment includes:

Jeff Krick: Ultimate Elvis Tribute, 7 p.m. Aug. 23

The Allentown Hobo Marching Band and Rama-lama stroll the grounds the afternoon Aug. 24

Flamin’ Dick and the Hot Rods, 7 p.m. Aug. 24

Other activities include “Valve Cover Racing,” “Teeter Totter,” cake walk, bingo, gift basket raffle, crafts and guessing games. The park’s swimming pool is expected to be open.

At 2:30 p.m. Aug. 24, there’s an auction of merchandise to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

On Aug, 25, a small block Chevrolet motor and welding equipment will be raffled.

Wheels of Time awards are given to 20 participants’ cars. National Street Rod Association vehicle safety inspections are given free of charge.

The Wheels of Time “Rod & Custom Jamboree” is said to be one of the largest all-volunteer events in the United States. Each year, approximately 20,000 spectators and participants attend the show.

During the past 20 years, an average of $60,000 is donated annually to local charities and the Wheels of Time scholarship program for young adults.

To date, more than $1.3 million has been donated to local community organizations, more than 300 scholarships have been awarded, and hundreds of pints of blood have been given to the Miller-Keystone Blood Center. The Blood-Mobile will be on site Aug. 25.

Wheels of Time members have provided many hours of community support with cars for parades and events, volunteer hours at fire companies, and support for those in need.

The Jamboree opens at 7 a.m. daily.

Attendees who bring a non-perishable food item receive a voucher toward food and merchandise purchase.
