NORTH WHITEHALL TOWNSHIP: Union UCC preparing for Blues Nite Out in the grove

The 16th annual Blues Nite Out will be staged Aug. 23 and 24 in the Union United Church of Christ grove, Neffs.

On Friday, the food stand will open at 5 p.m. Jake Kaligis and his band will perform from 7-10 p.m.

Refreshments will be available 4 p.m. on Saturday

From 4-6:30 p.m., Bev Conklin will make a return performance with her band and headliner and local favorite, the Sarah Ayers Band and James Supra on harmonica will entertain from 7-10 p.m.

Stop in for turkey barbecue, pulled pork, sausage sandwiches, hot dogs, chili, homemade baked goods and ice cream.

Here is an opportunity to enjoy another night outdoors with music, food, fun and fellowship.

Union Lutheran Church, Schnecksville, will start accepting book donations Sept. 3 for the annual book fest.

Textbooks and encyclopedias will not be accepted.

The event runs from 10:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sept. 8, in conjunction with Rally Day for the Sunday School.

Readers are invited to take as many books as they want.

Organizers suggest coming in and filling bags and boxes to stock up for winter reading pleasure.

Union Lutheran will host a daylong event for youth on Sept. 21.

Activities will focus on standing up for and living out one’s faith.

St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1415 Rising Sun Road, Laurys Station, is offering a two-year confirmation program beginning Sept. 8.

The first year will focus on Biblical background and questions of faith. The second year will look at practical discipleship.

Confirmation class members are typically in seventh or eighth grade.

If you are attending Parkland home football games, look for the Upper Lehigh Lions Club refreshment stand.

The Lions will be serve food during the Aug. 30 game against Central Catholic, and on Sept. 6 during the game against Freedom.
