Cops vs. counselors at summer camp

South Whitehall Township Parks and Recreation Department and the Parkland School District recently offered students the opportunity to attend a summer camp at Cetronia, Parkway Manor or Kratzer elementary schools.

The camp gave students, who had completed kindergarten through fifth grade, a chance to stay active and keep in touch with friends over the summer.

Providing both physical and mental stimulation, the program kept them and their counselors busy with crafts, sports and field trips.

The season was capped off with a program at Covered Bridge Park pitting the three schools against each other to determine which had the top summer program.

And, the final contest was between an extended team of counselors, some students and other hangers-on against the vaunted South Whitehall Police Department’s special tug-of-war crew.

As the counselors’ team was supplemented by more than its allotted share of “tuggers,” the special tug-of-war cops crew fell to their first defeat ever.
