WCSD students earn MP3 Player, chocolates

Two Whitehall-Coplay School District students - Catherine Becker, first-grade student at Gockley Elementary School, and Elanna Rosato, sixth-grade student at Whitehall-Coplay Middle School - were presented with prizes June 3 at Gockley Elementary.

Catherine and Elanna, both of Whitehall, sold $1,000 of Gertrude Hawk products. This is Catherine’s second year in a row selling that much Gertrude Hawk.

Both were given an MP3 Player and chocolates from the company.

Catherine additionally sold $1,000 of Cherrydale products, also two years in a row, during the first part of the school year. Catherine received a plush cow as a prize for that accomplishment.

Both students said they had family and friends who bought products from them, and their family members used social media to help increase the amount of products sold.

Nicole Becker, Catherine’s mother, played a big part in her sales.

Debra Bauer, Catherine’s grandmother, of Orefield, and Joseph Ippolitto, Catherine’s father, of Whitehall, were present during the gifting.

“She does a lot of fundraisers,” Bauer said. “Every little bit helps,” she added, when trying to sell as much as possible.

Toni Fillman, WC-PTO PLUS president, said she was excited for both students.

Denise Saylor, principal of Gockley, added her congratulations and said she was ecstatic to find out a winner was one of her students (Catherine) who had reached that amount.

The 2017-18 school year was the first time a Gockley student sold that amount for both companies for as long as WCSD has been doing these fundraisers. Catherine kept up the success by making this academic year the second time it happened for the elementary school.

Also, for Elanna, this was the first year a WCMS student reached that amount of fundraiser money.

“You can be very proud of yourself and your school,” Fillman said to both students. “PTO PLUS thanks you.”
