Upper Macungie Township police highlights

Multiple police agencies participated in an Operation Safe Driver Week coordinated Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) enforcement detail as part of the Coordinating Resources to Advance Safer Highways (CRASH) Program. The multi-agency detail was conducted July 17, 2019 in Berks and Lehigh Counties on and around State Route 222 and included municipal law enforcement agencies along with the Pennsylvania State Police.

The following results were reported for the enforcement detail.

Lehigh County:

53 MCSAP (Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program) inspections were conducted.

39 of those inspections had violations.

30 Driver Citations were issued (including 1 speeding, 1 for texting, 2 for using a hand-held device and 23 for failing to use a seat belt).

11 Warnings were issued.

2 Drivers were placed Out of Service for violations.

Berks County:

86 MCSAP (Morot Carrier Safety Assistance Program) inspections were conducted.

67 of those inspections had violations.

29 Driver Citations were issued. (including 3 failure to obey traffic control device, 1 improper lane change, 1 improper turns, 4 for using a hand-held device and 9 for failing to use a seat belt).

39 Warnings were issued.

6 Drivers were placed Out of Service for violations.

38 citations were issued for vehicle defects or equipment violations.

73 warnings were issued for vehicle defects or equipment violations.

17 vehicles were placed Out of Service.

1 vehicle was found to be overweight.

The Coordinating Resources to Advance Safer Highways (CRASH) was created to reduce Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) crashes. The program combines resources from participating agencies to target high CMV crash areas and develop a comprehensive plan to reduce traffic incidents.
