MACUNGIE BOROUGH COUNCIL

Macungie Borough Council met Aug. 5 to discuss outstanding items and normal borough business.

An update was provided on the borough manager search. The committee is reaching out to different areas to increase the candidate possibilities.

Borough Manager Chris Boehm has requested retirement medical benefits and accumulated sick and vacation pay. Council is asking for the request to be clarified in writing.

In other business, the borough website was discussed including providing details on issues considered at council meetings. This is being reviewed by council.

The zoning hearing officer candidate was unable to attend the Aug. 5 meeting so there is a possibility council members could meet him at an executive session planned 7 p.m. Aug. 6 in borough hall.

Also discussed was the resignation of Gary Cordner as deputy emergency management coordinator. Cordner accepted employment a substantial distance away which makes him unavailable to perform duties as needed.

It was noted Macungie Pool has had a difficult summer due to large crowds as a result of some surrounding pools being closed. Emmaus pool was closed for awhile and Cedar Beach has also been closed

The Streetscape project is moving along. The borough will request PPL remove the old street lights.

A bid was awarded for Streetscape Phase III to Mohawk Contracting & Development for $722,126, which includes four alternate bids.

The sidewalk waiver request issue continues. A decision will be reached by the next meeting.
