Township resident Richard Seltzer told Upper Macungie supervisors at their July meeting he has been waiting five years for someone to cut down a tree near his property along Farm Bureau Road.

He claims the tree is only about three feet from the roadway.

“The township has done nothing,” Seltzer stated.

During the discussion, Supervisor Kathy Rader noted the tree is on a neighbor’s property.

Supervisor Jim Brunell told Seltzer the township does not have the right to go on private property and cut down the tree.

In order to settle this problem, Scott Faust will visit with the property owner and ask if they could cut down the tree.

Another resident, Andy Konnick, told the board he is unhappy with the maintenance of the swale near his house.

This swale, between Pennfield Place and Blue Barn Road, has become a dumping ground for garbage.

Rats reportedly have been seen at the site, Konnick said, alleging the swale is on township property.

The board is expected to discuss this issue at the next supervisors’ meeting.

There were five resolutions on the agenda dealing with traffic signals on Route 100.

A request by Mavis discount tire for a conditional use and establishment of a no parking zone on Blue Barn Road rounded out the resolutions for the night.

The staff was authorized to prepare copies of any updates to the ordinances.

Only one bid was received for the Route 100 traffic project.

Telco Inc. was the sole bidder for a cost of $194,288.60. The project’s is expected to be completed at the end of December.

The winner for construction of the pavilions at Grange Road Park was George Ely and Associates with a bid of $54,640.

The company will construct two 20-foot by 44-foot pavilions.

Pat Wagner, who lives in a cul-de-sac in Breinigsville, also has a swale problem. She would like if someone would maintain it by mowing the weeds.

She claims the water doesn’t go away after heavy rains.

Planning and Zoning Director Daren Martocci stated the homeowners association should be taking care of this problem.

Police Chief Edgardo Colón reported calls for the township police department totaled 964.

Traffic citations numbered 291 with 103 false alarms. Most crimes reported were thefts (18), disturbing the peace (17) and DUI (16).

The K-9 Corps had five public demonstrations, one stop assist, one area search and one tracking. One of the items was for assisting another department.

The motor carrier program performed 26 inspections with 18 violations discovered. This resulted in four citations being issued.

The driving enforcement program issued 20 citations, one driver with a top speed of 85 mph.

Sgt. Dathan Schlegel received an honor from the Lehigh Valley DUI/Highway Safety Task Force.

He had more DUI arrests and had written more citations than any other police officer in Lehigh and Northampton counties.

Fire Commissioner Grant Grim reported EMS responses for the month totaled 96 priority 1; 57 priority 2; and 101 priority 3. There were four mutual aid requests.

Fogelsville Fire Company had 38 responses, Trexlertown, 37; and Upper Macungie Station 56 with 46.

Recruitment and retention showed 10 new members at Fogelsville, three new members and four retired at Trexlertown and two new members with one retired at Station 56.
