Teachers appointed for the 2019-20 NASD academic year
New appointments have been made for the 2019-20 school year in Northampton Area School District. These include, approved by a 9-0 unanimous vote by school directors, at the recommendation of the administration, at the May 6 NASD Board of Education meeting:
• Emily Boyle, biology teacher, Northampton Area High School, effective Aug. 19, at an annual salary of $53,555, with benefits
• Amy Wright, school counselor, NAHS, effective Aug. 19, at an annual salary of $56,812, with benefits
• Krista Schrader, family and consumer science teacher, Northampton Area Middle School, effective Aug. 19, at an annual salary of $52,755, with benefits
• Megan Reed, English teacher, NAMS, effective Aug. 19, at an annual salary of $52,755, with benefits
• NASD teachers Cyndi Dolan, Beth Wolfel, Tammie Tacker and Sarah Krachie, special education instructional specialists, effective Aug. 20
• Bethany Frantz, middle shift custodian, Lehigh Elementary School, effective July 10, at $20.43 per hour, with benefits
• Justin Gober, maintenance II employee, effective June 17, at $22.55 per hour, with benefits
Staff approved by an 8-0 vote, with one school director absent, at the recommendation of the administration, at the April 29 meeting include:
• Fanny “Paola” Mosquera, Spanish teacher, NAHS, effective Aug. 19, at an annual salary of $53,555, with benefits
• Robynlynn Goodwin, 12-month NAHS head secretary, effective May 20, at $22.08 per hour, with benefits
• Barbra Plohocki, of Envira Health, to provide water testing at regular intervals in school buildings at a cost of $50 per sample
Approved by a 9-0 vote, at the recommendation of the administration, at the April 8 meeting were:
•J ill Stout, 12-month confidential secretary to NASD assistant superintendent, effective July 1, at an annual salary of $48,000, with benefits
Approved by a 9-0 vote, at the recommendation of the administration, at the March 11 meeting include:
• Christopher Soboleski, art teacher, NAMS, effective no more than 60 days after March 12, at an annual salary of $55,410, prorated, with benefits
In other business, the school board voted 9-0 at the June 24 meeting, at the recommendation of the administration, to approve:
• A contract for a special education teacher to provide school-based special education services not to exceed $8,100
• A contract with Therapy Bridges LLC to conduct a comprehensive independent occupational therapy evaluation at a cost not to exceed $1,900
Insurance coverage and amounts for the 2019-20 fiscal year are:
• Property, general liability/abuse/crime of boiler and machinery - Utica, $135,195
• Automobile - Utica, $20,534
• Excess liability - Utica, $12,630
• School board errors and omissions - AIG, $37,758
• Workers’ compensation - Key Risk, $214,811

The school board voted 9-0 at the June 10 meeting, at the recommendation of the administration, to approve:
• A three-year service agreement with Engines Inc., Northampton, for service to eight NASD emergency generators, July 1 through June 30, 2022, at $5,165 for each year, 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22, plus load bank test, $5,200, for 2019-20
• Updated committed/assigned fund balance amounts - $9,278, Chromebook reserve as assigned fund balance reserve; and $1,000,000, districtwide capital improvements as committed fund balance reserves
• Contract renewal with EDU Healthcare for speech and language services at Col. John Siegfried Elementary School and/or other NASD buildings based on student need at a cost not to exceed $70,560
• Accept, with appreciation, donation of $1,021.66 from Lehigh Valley Community Benefit to pay outstanding debts of senior students
• The 2019 homestead and farmstead real estate tax reduction at $112.96 with a 2019 homestead and farmstead real estate assessed value reduction at $2,058
• A five-year chiller service agreement for $14,935 per year with Trane U.S. Inc., effective July 1 to June 30, 2024
• School board president to execute temporary construction easement to allow temporary access to property bordering Blue Mountain Drive for work by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for the issuance of a highway occupancy permit for Lehigh Elementary project
Also, the school board voted 8-0, with one school director absent, at the May 20 meeting, at the recommendation of the administration, to approve:
• A three-year service agreement with Oliver Fire Protection of King of Prussia, with a 0-percent increase to test and inspect fire protection sprinkler systems at the schools of Franklin Elementary, Col. John Siegfried Elementary, Washington Elementary, NAMS and NAHS: 2019-20 - $2,510; 2020-21 - $1,910; and 2021-22 - $1,910
The school board voted 9-0 at the May 6 meeting, at the recommendation of the administration, to approve:
• A three-year service agreement with Communication Systems Inc., Allentown, to service, inspect, test and document fire alarm systems at NAHS and NAMS, July 1 through June 30, 2022, with a 0-percent increase at the rate of $2,138 for each year for each school in the three-year contract, 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22
• Reappoint Northampton Area School District Business Office, as 2019-20 NASD tax collector for Bath Borough, Chapman Borough, Allen Township, Moore Township, East Allen Township, Northampton Borough and Lehigh Township
• A two-year agreement, June 2019 through June 2021, for FirstNet services provided by AT&T at $5,132.34 per month
• Lunch prices for the 2019-20 school year - student: $2.30, elementary, and $2.50, secondary; student entree only: $2.15, elementary, and $2.30, secondary; student milk (1/2 pint): 55 cents, elementary, and 55 cents, secondary; adult: $3.75; and adult entree only: range, $2.50 to $3.50. A la carte prices for the 2019-20 school year were also set.
