LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Camp Cementon: Campers learn about animals

As our summer at Camp Whitehall begins to come to a close, we spent week seven trying to have as much fun as possible. Luckily, the weather was great all week, so we got to play many games.

Monday morning began with some free time outside, followed by some favorite games, like Silent Ball and Red Light-Green Light. After lunch, we headed to the pool and enjoyed an afternoon full of Four Square and pool time.

On Tuesday, our day started with time outside, and many of the campers chose to make string bracelets with some of our counselors. Others played Four Square, and some chose to run around on the playground. After free time, we played an awesome game of Limbo, followed by Wonderball and Four Corners. A camp favorite of Fastest in the West really seemed to tire everyone out. Our wonderful day ended again with time at the pool, which was much needed with all the heat!

Wednesday was our field trip. As soon as the campers arrived in the morning, we headed off to Wildlands Conservancy, Emmaus. The camp was split into two groups, and we took turns switching through all the activities Wildlands Conservancy had to offer. The first thing we did was examine pond water to try and identify different types of insects living in the water. Then, we went on a hike and were able to see different habitats for various animals, such as milkweeds that monarch butterflies live off. Right before lunch, the campers got to measure their arm length and compare it to the wingspan of different birds and eagles.

After lunch, a guide explained to us what Wildlands Conservancy does. They help rehabilitate animals that can no longer live in the wild. We were shown a wood turtle, a pigeon, an opossum, a raven, a rabbit and a bearded dragon. Each camper got a chance to gently pet some of the animals. We even were able to watch the release of the monarch butterflies. Our day ended with a relaxing tube ride down the Little Lehigh and some time to play in the water at the end.

On Thursday, we played Pacman, Night at the Museum and dodgeball. Thursday was also craft day, and we made slime. Each of the campers got to choose a color. There was even colored glitter to add at the end. Everyone loved it. After lunch, we played Drip, Drip, Splash and then headed up to the pool.

Friday was the shortest day yet. We played Heads Up Seven Up, Simon Says and Jump the River. We ended our day at the pool, where the campers played in the water with all the lifeguards and counselors.

This week, we awarded Camper of the Week to Mikey Z. and Sophia S. They both showed great behavior and star behavior all week long. Congratulations to both of them!

We are all very excited for next week but also sad as it is our last week for camp.
