SALISBURY TOWNSHIP

The Salisbury Recreation Advisory Committee met July 15 and discussed the Community Day event activities.

The committee held the event 5-8 p.m. July 16 at Salisbury Middle School.

The discussion centered on wrapping up the last minute details.

Salisbury Township Commissioner Debra Brinton was in attendance and discussed what she had been doing to prepare for the event.

Recreation Director Genny Baillie noted nine out of the 18 playground program counselors would be working at the event.

It was noted Det. Chris Casey from the Salisbury Township Police Department had secured donations from community businesses for most of the food.

The event included free food, bingo, a bake off, inflatables, a dunk tank, corn hole, basket raffles, township fire trucks and police cars. Andy, the Texas Roadhouse mascot was scheduled to walk around and meet the community members.

In new business, the committee set the dates for the annual park tours, when they visit every township park to make sure everything is in working order. The east side parks of Laubach, Dodson and Franko will be toured 6 p.m. Aug. 19. The west side parks of Lindberg, Green Acres, Berger and Devonshire will be toured 6 p.m. Aug. 26.

In other business, committee member Frank McCullough mentioned Lindberg Park could use another bike rack. Since construction was finished, it has become a very popular place and the current bike racks are usually full.

Baillie said the pickleball courts are very popular at Lindberg Park and they are contemplating adding pickleball lines to the tennis courts at Devonshire Park and Laubach Park. She also mentioned some visitors to Lindberg Park are not following the rule of no dogs allowed in the park. Baillie was concerned because there was an incident with a child in the park program and a dog in the park.

After all committee business was completed, a resident spoke about his concern of illegal ATVs and dirt bikes driving around Walking Purchase Park. He takes his family hiking there and was asking the committee what he could do or who he could speak to about making the park more family friendly.

The next meeting will be held 7:30 p.m. Sept. 16 in the municipal building.
