LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Lauren McKinney Liberty HS

Grade: graduated senior

Family members: Seven rambunctious siblings, one graceful mother and one tenacious stepfather make the whole of my family.

Favorite subject: One of my favorite subjects would have to be psychology, because of both its complexity and simplicity relating to the brains of humans and animals. Another of my favorite subjects is forensic science, for a very similar reason. The intense studies of crime scenes and the simple striving for justice have always caught my attention.

Activities: An activity I was most passionate about is a school club called GSA (Gay Straight Alliance). The club is all about the connection between people of all sexual orientations, as well as a safe haven for students to come and communicate with each other. Last year was my third year being part of the club, and for the first time I had a leadership role.

Next steps: At the end of fall semester, I began taking all courses at NCC and now will move to a college in the south to get a bachelor’s degree in psychology or forensic analysis.

Career goals: After college, I hope to land a job as a forensic psychologist or a criminal investigator.

Heroes: My true heroes are my grandparents because of their friendliness to everyone they encounter, their compassion for a wide variety of things and their unique definition of a successful life – one truly well spent.

Hobbies: My greatest pastime is reading. I am an avid book reader because of the way novels can take me to completely different worlds. They bring me so much joy. I also like to write and watch documentaries about animal life and criminal activity.

Current job(s): I work as a part-time cashier at Panera Bread.

Volunteer/community work: I have been a classroom helper for the Notre Dame of Bethlehem Church’s religious education classes, a volunteer worker for the Historic Bethlehem Organization’s annual festivals, and a regular blood donor for the Miller-Keystone Blood Center.

Likes: I really enjoy helping others, as well as analyzing and understanding people and scientific studies.

Dislikes: I dislike the prominent negative energies that come with everyday life.

Greatest accomplishment (so far): My greatest accomplishment, I believe, are my grades. For as long as I can remember, I’ve worked very hard to earn the letter grades I got, and that is something I will always be proud of.

Advice for peers: My advice to others is just to find what you are passionate about and run with it. Everyone is made to benefit and change the world in a different way, but it’ll only pay off if you work for it.
