The season ended last week for the Coplay Senior Legion baseball team, bowing out of the league playoffs against Salisbury.

Coplay dropped out of the playoffs, according to the league, prior to their game with Salisbury, giving Salisbury the victory.

Prior to that game, they faced the Carbon Monarchs in the opening round and lost 11-1 behind Brad Buzzard’s six-RBI performance. With the two losses, Coplay was eliminated from the playoffs. Austin Miller went 2-3 in the loss.

They finished the season 5-12-1.

South Parkland won the Lehigh Senior Legion playoffs, defeating Northern Valley to advance to the Region 2 playoffs which begin on Friday. It’s the third consecutive title for the Trojans.

First-year head coach Ed Foster said that the season presented some challenges with some of their more veteran players not arriving until later in the schedule.

“We made some tough adjustments and won several games in a row, followed by a few nail-biting games for which we landed short,” said Foster.

Ayden Dunbar led the team in hitting (minimum 20 plate appearances) with a .375 average. He collected 12 hits on the season and scored nine runs. Joe Lisicky batted .368. He also scored 10 runs and knocked in six. Austin Miller led the team in RBIs with seven, while batting .278 on the year. Mason Schlofer finished the year with a .263 average with three RBIs and four runs scored. Connor Foster had seven hits, finishing the season at .233.

On the mound, Jake Paashaus, led the way with two wins to pace the team. Foster was the team’s ERA leader (minimum 8 innings pitched) with a 2.07 mark. He also registered a save. Paasahus was also a league leader in another pitching statistic. He ranks first in first strike efficiency, getting the initial pitch over 73.4% of the time.

Foster said that his team, which consists of players from Whitehall, Coplay and Catasauqua, teamed up for some “exemplary morale and sportsmanship.”
